What ages do you teach?
I love teaching students of all ages, starting as early as 4 years old, and I also love working with teenagers and adults. I teach a range of abilities from absolute beginners right through to advanced levels.
Online lessons are best suited to students aged 10+.
How long are the lessons?
I recommend 30 minutes for beginners and "just for fun" players.
45 minutes is best for intermediate students who want to take their musicality to the next level. For example, this is the best option if you would like to study for piano exams.
60 minutes is best for advanced students (AMEB Grade 6+)
How much should I practise each week?
As a general recommendation, I suggest playing piano 4-5 times per week to see progress. Think of learning an instrument like taking up a sport - the more time you spend on it, the more fun and satisfying the results.
What equipment do I need to get started?
To begin piano lessons, you will need a piano or digital piano at home with 88 weighted keys and a pedal. I can recommend some rental options when we get started.
The basic setup for online lessons includes your instrument, a device with internet connection (ideally a laptop or iPad) and headphones.
Do I need to purchase a webcam or external microphone for online lessons?
In our first trial lesson we will chat about what device you have and the best microphone options available. For many students, the built in microphone on your laptop or iPad etc is sufficient. For intermediate to advanced students, it is often helpful to purchase an external microphone.
Generally, a webcam is not required, however this will depend on the quality of your built-in camera.
